This year is Ken’s 60th anniversary so I had to give y’all a two-doll giftset. I was thinking of Barbie & Ken as the ultimate power couple, so I put them in matching power suits. Bright, candy colored satin (inspired by the colors of Palm Springs where Barbie con would have been if it weren’t for this damn global panini), sharp pointed lapels, power shoulders, white faux leather tops underneath, extra long belts in contrasting colors, clear hoop earrings, black sunglasses with white frames, and white shoes.
The yellow/pink set uses the MotM Marisa sculpt & the Basics Model 17 Ken sculpt. The blue/purple set use the Claudette sculpt & the BMR1959 Tate sculpt!
I miss my Barbie collector friends, wish we were together in person, and I was sitting for 4 hours straight signing everyone’s convention doll after the final event lol. Hopefully next year it’ll be safe to have an IRL convention.

Zara never ceases to amaze us and after releasing its own collection of underwear and this customizable jacket with paintings included, it has (literally) swept a Barbie collection. It is not the first time that the Inditex giant has released garments characterized by the classic doll, however this time it is special. And this selection includes two limited edition dolls dressed in very ‘sport’ clothes that are super trendy and have flown in the blink of an eye. The reason? That the full profits from its sale will be allocated to the NGO Entreculturas for the development of educational activities.

Love, Bonito has partnered with Mattel to offer a limited-edition collection of Barbies for select markets in Asia including Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong and Indonesia. Titled “Dream It, Do It!”, the collaboration aims to inspire young girls and women to believe in themselves and be empowered to pursue their limitless potential.
For the collection, the brand worked closely with Barbie to curate the body types – petite, curvy, original and small bust. Each doll comes with a Barbie-sized apparel assortment based off Love, Bonito’s The Staples collection, and is available upon purchase of the Love, Bonito X Barbie t-shirt as part of a SG$150 minimum spend in a single order. Through the collection and t-shirts, Love, Bonito aims to connect with young women across Asia and encourage them to have the confidence to follow their dreams. Love, Bonito is currently working with Ogilvy Singapore for PR efforts around the Mattel partnership.
Aside from the Barbie initiative, the fashion brand is funding about USD30,000 to the education of 100 girls in low-income communities in Asia for a year through Room to Read Girls’ Education Programme. This will help the girls stay in high school for a year, helping them build skills to succeed in school and negotiate key life decisions.
The move comes in response to a report by The World Bank which forecasted lower levels of schooling, learning and future earnings because of school closures in low-income economies. Moreover, UNESCO projected that 11 million girls might not return to school due to COVID-19’s unprecedented education disruption.
“Love, Bonito’s investment will ensure that education endures during a particularly critical time for girls at risk of dropping out of school across Asia,” said Laurie McMahon, Room to Read’s chief development and communications officer.
Separately, the brand is currently on the hunt for its first venture lead as it expands into a new vertical. The individual will lead the launch squad and collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders and Love, Bonito’s senior leadership to set the strategy, design the go-to-market and implement the roll-out. As the company’s first hire in its “incubator” LaB, he or she will be a role model and custodian of Love, Bonito’s values and be an embodiment and advocate of the brand in and outside its organisation. At the same time, it also recently hired Jacqueline Lui as communications lead. She has experience on the agency side, having worked at Weber Shandwick, Edelman, and Bless Inc Asia.

On the occasion of the Olympic Games, Barbie, Italia Team and EA7 Emporio Armani collaborate to celebrate the athletes of the Italia Team: there are three unique Barbies created for the occasion with outfits signed by EA7 Emporio Armani, which will be auctioned in support of the FIAGOP – Italian Federation of Parent and Healed Associations Pediatric Oncohematology Onlus. The three dolls will fly to Tokyo together with the Italia Team, to be exhibited exclusively at Casa Italia Tokyo 2020 and to be admired in all their incredible details.
Proprio today the first doll wearing the Italia Team uniform is unveiled at Tokyo 2020. The exclusive graphics that personalize the garments is a tribute to Japanese culture: the Rising Sun, symbol of Japan, is reinterpreted with the colors of the Tricolore, while the writing ITALIA, recreated with characters that recall the Kanji writing, contains within it the reference to the Torii, the traditional gateway to a sacred place. The other two dolls will instead be revealed during the women’s competitions; once again Barbie turns the spotlight on highly topical issues, because her mission, since 1959, is to inspire the infinite potential that exists in every little girl. Thanks to Barbie, each of them has had the opportunity to play different roles in every area: with this project, we want to remind girls that they can aspire to be whatever they want, even in sports.
The three unique pieces represent an inclusive capsule, a theme dear to all the brands involved: EA7 Emporio Armani is also a Partner of the Italian Paralympic Committee, while Barbie has focused on new models over the years with the aim of promoting diversity and inclusion. Upon their return to Italy, the 3 One-of-a-Kind Barbie dolls will be auctioned for a very special purpose: to support the FIAGOP, the federation that with its associates works every day to guarantee children with cancer and leukemia the right to health and a good quality of life and to ensure their families the necessary support. CONI supports the association by amplifying in particular the “I run for them – Children without cancer” event scheduled in Milan on September 26, 2021 and intended to support scientific research.

2021 Moscow Metro female train drivers were given a Barbie doll in their uniform.
At the start of the year, the Moscow metro will welcome the first female train drivers since the 1980s. The profession has long been forbidden to them because of its “physical difficulty”. Barbie dolls in Moscow Underground-branded boxes with a message reading “You can be anything you want to be” are on display during a ceremony in the maintenance depot on Line 4 (Filyovskaya Line) as first female train drivers begin to work in the Moscow Underground (Metro). 12 custom dolls were presented to each of the drivers and, in the near future, an exhibition with dolls of different professions will be unveiled in one of the main Moscow stations.
