Features of dolls from the vintage era aren’t always the easiest to re-create, and that can present challenges for even the most seasoned designer. “The pink flocked fabric suit isn’t made from a fabric we widely use today in the Barbie line,” Greening explains, describing the soft pink power suit that transforms into a shirred skirt evening look. “We also had to make sure the fashion transformation was just as magical as the original.” How did they manage to pull that off? barbieRosie the Riveter will always be an icon of women’s empowerment and an inspiration for girls everywhere. The doll was a one of a kind and will not be sold to the public.

One-of-a-kind doll Barbie in Batik.

Mattel presents Barbie Batik as a tribute to Indonesian culture, where Mattel’s largest factory is located. One-of-a-kind Barbie Batik Doll was given to the Minister of Industry as a symbol of good relationship between Mattel and the Indonesian government.

The doll was dressed in pink-and-purple batik with signature motifs of parang (tongue of fire) and megamendung (blue-and-white cloud). The outfit was completed with a scarf and accessories that included shoes, earrings and a golden-colored necklace.

“Today, the batik Barbie was launched, which shows that Mattel is geared toward the branding of local Indonesian products,” Airlangga said at the Mattel Indonesia factory in Cikarang, West Java, on Monday as quoted by kompas.com. (2017/12/04).

It is not yet known when the Barbie in batik will be available in stores or what motif the doll will wear. According to Mattel, the company is set to explore further development before officially launching the product in the market.

The doll will be available for purchase in Indonesia, in 2018.

Designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy are the latest designers to partner with the Instagram account @BarbieStyle to create one-of-a-kind Barbie dolls wearing designs from their Spring 2018 collection.

Chloe Kim is a first generation Asian-American snowboarding champion and the new face of the sport. At 17 years old, she became the youngest woman to win a gold medal in snowboarding at the 2018 Pyeong Chang games.
Along with her halfpipe win, Chloe is also a four-time X Games gold medalist and the first woman to win two gold medals in snowboarding at the youth winter games. In 2016, she became the first female to land back-to-back 1080s and score a perfect 100 at the U.S. Grand Prix.

Nicola Adams OBE was born in Leeds, West Yorkshire on October 26, 1982. She is Great Britain’s most successful female boxer of all time and the first female ever to win a gold medal in boxing. The two-time gold medalist is the only female boxer in the history of the sport to have held all four amateur titles.
She fought and won her first bout at the age of 13, the same year the ban on women’s boxing was lifted in the UK. HUI RUOQI (Volleyball Champion, China) getting her own Barbie.

Hui Ruoqi is a female Chinese volleyball player. She is the fifteenth captain of the Chinese women’s national volleyball team and won gold at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro games. Ruoqi has also won several world medals including a silver medal at the World Cup and a silver medal at the World Championships, in addition to several individual awards during her career.
In April 2017, she established the Hui Ruoqi Women’s Volleyball Development Fund, which helps the outstanding athletes and coaches who have made great contributions to the development of volleyball.
Ruoqi is popularizing volleyball sports in her own way and continues to chase the “faster, higher, stronger” spirit in other arenas. She formed a huge volunteer support team to visit the remote mountainous areas of Qinghai to assist with educational activities. In the future, she wants to continue using sports to solve social problems.

HÉLÈNE DARROZE (World-Renowned Chef, France) getting her own Barbie.

Hélène Darroze is an inspirational fourth-generation French chef with two Michelin stars and three restaurants. After graduating from university, she joined Alain Ducasse’s team at the prestigious Le Louis XV restaurant in Monaco. In 1995, she received the keys to her father’s kitchen and spent the next four years refining her culinary style. At 32, she opened her first restaurant in Paris which was awarded one Michelin star. With distinct shifts of cultures at every step, each doll in the collection has found a unique muse in the beauty India has to offer. Barbie has seamlessly weaved in elements of iconic Indian heritage destinations into the collection that reflects contemporary designs in traditional wear.Inspiration from each design comes from unique architectural and design elements of monuments in India such as the ‘jharokas’ofHawa Mahal from the pink city, Jaipur; the mystical paintings fromAjanta Caves from Maharashtra, the opulent courtyards of Mysore Palace from Mysuru – the city of Palaces; the grand arches of South Indian heritage palace, ThirumallaiNayakkar Mahal in Madurai; the vibrant colours from Sikkim’s Gompas and the striking sheen of marbles from India’s wonder of the world; Taj Mahal.These elements are flawlessly integrated in the dolls’ designs and packaging as well.
